Overview
Prison Island, also known as Changuu Island, is one of Zanzibar’s most popular and fascinating excursions, located just 5 km northwest of Stone Town. This tour offers a perfect mix of history, nature, and relaxation, making it an ideal addition to your Zanzibar experience.
During the visit, your local guide will share the island’s rich history dating back to the 1860s, including stories from the era of slavery and past disease outbreaks. You’ll also learn why the island is known by four different names and the meaning behind each one.
A major highlight of the tour is meeting the famous giant Aldabra tortoises, some of the oldest living creatures in the world, originally brought from Seychelles in the 19th century.
