Jozani Forest Tour

1 Day

Overview

Jozani Forest, also known as Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park, is the only national park on Zanzibar Island. Though small—covering only 50 square kilometers—it is a beautiful and fascinating place to visit. This is truly a must-see tour for anyone exploring Zanzibar.

Jozani Forest is located about 35–38 km southeast of Zanzibar Town, in the southern region of the island. It sits on a narrow strip of land between Chwaka Bay to the north and Uzi Bay to the south. The forest is home to around 100 tree species from a total of 43 different families.

This tour is perfect for all jungle and nature lovers. During your walk through the park, you’ll encounter the rare and endemic Red Colobus Monkeys, which are found only in Zanzibar. You will also enjoy a scenic walk through the mangrove forest. The tour takes about three hours and offers a great opportunity to witness the natural beauty and biodiversity of the island.

The inclusion of the Chwaka Bay mangrove forests—protected since 1946 and managed by eight local villages (Chwaka, Pongwe, Uroa, Marumbi, Mapopwe, Charawe, Ukongoroni, and Michamvi)—makes this conservation area a unique example of community-led environmental management.
